“I had tried to write crime fiction for years, with nothing to show for it but a filing cabinet filled with uncompleted novels. “About ten years ago I decided it was time to get serious. At first, being serious was indistinguishable from not being serious. It looked like I was going to have to buy some more filing cabinets. "It wasn’t until I moved back to Long Island that my attempts at crime fiction turned funny. People had always laughed at my writing. Suddenly I had a blinding insight: I could do that on purpose! "Inspired, I got to work. Vinnie’s Head was the end product, though it took a fair number of false starts before I completed it. I managed to interest Dan Hooker of the Ashley Grayson Agency, and he sold it to St. Martin’s Minotaur last September. It’s scheduled to launch in March 2007.
